The initial generation Audi A4 is successor of four previous generations of the Audi 80. The Audi A4 is produced by the German car manufacturer Audi AG since late 1994 and is a compact executive car. The Audi A4 automobile layout consists of a longitudinally orientated engine at the front, with transaxle-type transmissions mounted to the rear of the engine just like its Audi 80 predecessor. Drive output is transmitted on some models, using Audi's 'trademark' quattro permanent four-wheel drive system via a Torsen centre differential, but in general to front wheels.

Audi A4 B5 (the first generation)

The first-generation of Audi 4A B5 (known internally as the Typ 8D) started to be produced in November 1994 and it was debuted by Audi. It had a front-mounted longitudinal engine and standard front-wheel drive. Audi AA4 was built on the Volkswagen Group B5 (PL45) platform. The Avant (estate/wagon) arrived a year later but initially A4 was introduced as a four-door saloon/sedan. Its production finished in 2001, and its successor is Audi A4 (B6). Audi A4 (B8) (the last generation)

 The last generation of Audi A4 B8 (known internally as the Typ 8K) started to be produced in 2008 and is ssembled in Ingolstadt - Germany and Aurangabad - India . Audi released the first official pictures of the uAdi  B8 series A4 in August 2007. It is characterized by next parameters: its predecessor is Audi A4 (B7), it is produced it two types of body style: 4-door saloon/sedan, and 5-door Avant (estate/wagon). A4 B8 also uses two types of engine: petrol (1.8 L TFSI I4, 2.0 L TFSI I4, 3.2 L V6 FSI) and diesel (2.0 L TDI I4, 2.7 L V6 TDI, 3.0 L V6 TDI). Audi A4 B8 is produced with 3 kinds of transmission: 6-sp tiptronic automatic, 7-sp S tronic, 8-sp multitronic CVT and 6-sp manual.
