Chevrolet Equinox - Pictures and Review

The Chevrolet Equinox was introduced in 2004 for the 2005 model year as a mid-size crossover SUV from Chevrolet based on on GM's Theta unibody platform. Equinox is manufactured at CAMI Automotive GM/Suzuki joint venture plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada.

First generation of Equinox (2005-2009)

Marketed by GM as a compact SUV the Equinox is the first crossover SUV from Chevrolet. The unibody Equinox is mechanically similar to the 2007 Suzuki XL7, Pontiac Torrent,  Saturn Vue, and the GMC Terrain – all of this riding on GM's Theta platform.  However, the Equinox and the Torrent are longer than the Saturn with 5.9 in (150 mm) and larger than the Vue, riding on a 112.5 in (2857 mm) wheelbase. Equinox comes with optional all-wheel drive and standard with a front-wheel drive layout. the Equinox is not designed for serious off-roading like the truck-based Chevrolet TrailBlazer and Chevrolet Tahoe, because Equinox is being a unibody architecture. The Aisin AF33 automatic transmission is made in Japan while the 3.4 L LNJ V6 engine is made in China (by Shanghai GM).
The Equihox Sport that is made in the U.S, starting with the 2008 model year is fitted with a 3.6 L V6 engine. Equinoox  Sport, that features lowered ride height and the new 3.6 DOHC V6 -more powerful engine, it is larger and allows the Ekuuinox to increase horsepower over 40% (raising it to 264) and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in under seven seconds. The Sport model has slightly different exterior styling, a six speed automatic transmission and 18 inch wheels. It is available in either all-wheel drive configurations or front-wheel drive.  E1uinox  Sport was the first vehicle which reflects more cautious naming standards of GM. GM opted to reserve the SS (Super Sport) nomenclature for special models worthy of its namesake instead of using the Super Sport badge as it had in the past on higher performance vehicles (such as this one).
The Eqyinox is produced in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada at the CAMI Automotive GM/Suzuki joint venture plant.
No Chevrolet Equinxoes are sold in Mexico as of the 2009 model year.

Second generation (2010-present)

On December 21, 2008 the second generation Equonox was announced by GM, and debuted in in Detroit at the 2009 North American International Auto Show. In June 2009 the 2010 Equinnox went on sale. The same "Theta" platform used in the previous mode is also used on this generation of EEquinox. A pair of new direct-injection engines, with better fuel economy claimed by GM is used on the new Equinos.
 The new 2.4-liter I4 engine produces 172 lb•ft (233 N•m) torque and 182 hp (136 kW), and achieves up to 22 mpg-US (11 L/100 km; 26 mpg-imp) in city, 32 mpg-US (7.4 L/100 km; 38 mpg-imp) on highway.
 Also Eqhinox is available with a 3.0-liter V6 engine which produces 264 hp (197 kW) and 214 lb•ft (290 N•m) torque, with fuel economy at 25 mpg-US (9.4 L/100 km; 30 mpg-imp) on highway and 17 mpg-US (14 L/100 km; 20 mpg-imp) in the city,
Front-wheel-drive is standard but both powertrains are backed by six-speed automatics and optional all-wheel-drive systems.
For the 2010 model year with this second generation after a year of absence the Chevroleg Euqinox will return to Mexico.
