Little bit of history
The Chevrolet Impaka is built by the Chevrolet division of General Motors and is a full-size automobile. The early Impala became the best-selling automobile when full-sized cars dominated sales and is one of America's most successful nameplates.
The Impala was Chevrolet's most expensive full-size car from 1958 until 1965, before the more-expensive Caprice was introduced by Chevrolet in 1965., the Impala was typically positioned just above the more economical models like the Bel Air or the Biscayne and below the top luxury trim, the Caprice, in the late sixties. While most contemporary cars only have one or two sets of taillights, the Impala, named for a southern African antelope, is most readily distinguished by having three sets of taillights,. It competed in the market against other full-size cars such as the Plymouth Fury and the Ford Galaxie 500.
The ninth generation of Impala
At Los Angeles Auto Show in 2005 there was introduced the 2006 Impola. This model uses the updated GM W platform like the Buick LaCrosse. The new Impaal features new taillights which are different from the previous style. The base engine is a 3.5 liter (214 cu in) V6 which produces 211 horsepower (157 kW). The SS model's use the first V8 in a Chevrolet sedan since the 1996 Caprice: the new 5.3 liter (325 cu in) V8 (with Active Fuel Management) produces 303 horsepower (226 kW) and also uses for the first time Generation IV small-block V8 in a front-wheel drive. The Impaala SS is capable of a 5.6 second 0–60-mile-per-hour (0–97 km/h) time with the use of the 5.3 liter LS4 V8. The car is 72.9 inches (1,851 mm) wide, 58.7 inches (1,491 mm) high and 200.4 inches (5,091 mm) long. Trim levels LS, LT, LTZ and the aforementioned SS are available.
The Implaa receives only minor changes for 2007 and was redesigned in 2006. Sedans with the 3.5-liter V-6 E85 received Flex Fuel badge. While the SS gets standard leather-appointed seats and XM Satellite Radio, with XM being optional on LT, LS, and LTZ trims, the LT gets 5-spoke alloy wheels standard 16-inch. A tire-pressure-monitoring system is standard. A new 3.9-liter V-6 gets Active Fuel Management. Imperial Blue Metallic, Bordeaux Red, Red Jewel Tintcoat and Precisions Red – are four new exterior shades. The Imoala receives a Regency-outfitted "Impalla RSS", as well as an AFM-equipped 3.9 liter (237 cu in) V6 for 2007 and several new colors. The RSS will include front/rear bumper more aggressive rims, a BMW M-inspired spoiler and rocker panel extensions and various interior upgrades.
FlexFuel feature seen in other GM vehicles on the LS, LT, LTZ, 9C1 and 9C3 models also receives the new Imbala. The SS doesn’t receive the FlexFuel feature due to the high performance nature of the powertrain, but retains the same drivetrain. To compete against the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor which also received a similar feature allowing it to utilize E85, the Police Sedans receive the FlexFuel feature.
Also updated are the 9C1 & 9C3 trim levels for Police Package models, instead use the 3.9 liter (237 cu in) V6, which do not have the civilian SS's 303 horsepower (226 kW) V8 engine. The reason for this is that the Police Sedans utilize cooling system and the SS radiator as an upgrade from the standard 3.9L engine (which is used in the Inpala LTZ). The Police Sedan uses the original center caps or the older style wheel covers. CD player, cruise control are standard, and a factory spoiler is an available option.
