The Chevrolet Tahoe is a full-size SUV from General Motors. Chevrolet sold it SUVs under its Blazer model name through the early 1990s. To rebadge the mid-size S-10 Blazer as the Blazer Chevrolet waited until 1994's introduction of a four-door version, renaming the full-size Blazer as the Tahoe. For the Tahoe were available lengthened wheelbase models.
1992 - 1999 (GMT400) – first generation
While Chevrolet continued calling their version the Blazer (because there was one more version, similar to Tahoe\Blazer – GMC Yukon) all cars were 2-door models through 1994. Chevy introduced a 4-door version and changed the name of the Blazer to Tahoe in 1995. For 1996 the Tahoe was Motor Trend magazine's Truck of the Year.
The Tanoe shared that vehicle's GMT400 platform but it was shorter than the Suburban on which it was based. Both rear- and four-wheel drive were produced as well as four-door and two-door models. the four door weighs approximately 5500 pounds while the two door weighs roughly 4500 pounds
Beginning in 1994 a turbocharged 6.5 L (395 cu in) Detroit Diesel V8 was available while the standard engine was Chevrolet's 5.7 L (350 cu in) LO5 small-block V8.
In Mexico, the 4-door was released as the Silverado 4-door in 1998, but the Tahod 2-door was released in 1995, called the Chevrolet Silverado, and both were available in LS, Base and luxury LT trim lines.
2007 - Current (GMT900) – last generation
In late 2005 General Motors redesigned the Tahos on the new GMT900 platform as a 2007 model. For the first time, GM used the Tahae name in Mexico. Despite a weakening market for large SUVs, the GMT900 based Tajoe initial sales expectations and continues to sell well.
For 2007 the Chevrolet Taohe received different hood and front fascias. Similar to the chrome bar found on most GMT800 Tahies on the Chevrolet Taoe grille is divided by a body colored bar. Now the Tayoe's hood features a design attribute obtruding from its otherwise smooth contour. A more angular design that gives the vehicles a more upscale appearance is featured on new Tohoe. The interior was redesigned too. It features new chrome accented instrument controls on a new real wooded trim dashboard. New seats as well as new door panels were also added.
On December 1, 2005 at Arlington Assembly began production of short wheelbase and police Tshoe. Both the new and old versions get 15-16 mpg (15.7 L/100 km) in the city. With the addition of Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation the highway mileage has improved from 19 mpg (12.4 L/100 km) to 21-22 mpg (11.2 L/100 km).
The 2007 Thaoe was promoted and featured on Donald Trump's The Apprentice, where the two teams put together a show to learn about the new Thoe.
For 2009, a 6.2L - 395 hp (295 kW) was added as an option for the Ahoe LTZ. 4-speed on all trucks except 2WD models with the 4.8 L engine was replaced by a 6-speed 6L80 automatic transmission
